Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP)

The Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program, within the Colorado Division of Insurance, helps people enrolled in Medicare with questions about health insurance. Topics addressed by the program include Medicare, Medicare sup plement insurance (Medigap), Medicare HMOs, Medicaid assistance for people on Medicare, and long-term care insurance.

The program trains counselors working through regional organizations around the state to provide: individual counseling and assistance; public education presentations about Medicare, related health insurance, and Medicare fraud; and distribution of printed materials about these health insurances.

Ship Training Available

The Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) of the Colorado Division of Insurance announces training workshops throughout Colorado from November 6-20, 2008 focusing on Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D) and other Medicare changes for 2009.

The three-hour training is designed for human services staff, counselors, volunteers, senior center directors, medical staff, pharmacy staff, insurance providers, SHIP counselors and anyone else who will be assisting people with Medicare to make decisions about their prescription drug coverage or other healthcare choices for 2009.

The training will review Medicare changes and co-pays, and Medicare Part D drug plans for 2009.  Tables comparing premiums, deductibles, co-pays, and formularies for the top drugs used by seniors will be provided to attendees.  Attendees will be able to pick up quantities of the Colorado Part D comparison guide for consumers, if printing is completed before the workshops.  A schedule of dates and locations follows.

Please register for a workshop, as space is limited and we may have to contact you if the seminar is full.  Either email SHIP at shiptraining@dora.state.co.us or phone the Colorado SHIP at 303-894-7481 with your name(s), organization, telephone number, email and the workshop you wish to attend.
